working and more work!

so i started that gig i got for the reality show seamstress last sunday. i worked a full day. it was pretty easy work, i made a table runner, and a crapload of pillows. i also shortened a comforter. i was asked to come back on wednesday after work, and i asked if they needed anyone else, and they said they could use mom, so she came too. we did about 9 more comforters and i finished up the pillows. then last night i did 5 more comforters. and i'll be going back on saturday to stuff the pillows and make some bench covers. 3 full days of work, and i got my mom some work (she loved being on a set for the first time!) and yesterday when i got there the art director (who i'm reporting too--he's super cool) asked if i knew anyone that could paint some walls for him. so i got my brother, angel and his best friend, ralph, the job. it's cool that we all get to do a little something different, and make a little extra cash. i can't wait til this makes it on the air, so i can show you all what i did!

guess who got a great gig!

so yesterday afternoon, i see an email from my friend nat here at the office... she works a few desks down from me. she saw a posting on craigslist and thought of me, so she sent it over. it was for a seamstress to make curtains, pillows and table runners for a reality show. for shits and giggles, i sent my experience and my contact info. i left work and didn't even give it a second thought. until half way home someone with a 323 are code calls the cell phone. turns out that they wanted me for the job! they wanted to see if i was available on the 19th, 20th & 21st. i told them sure no problem. she confirmed me and told me she'd call back with more details. this was awesome! i had monday off of work already, and i figured i could call in sick if they needed me tues. and wed. she called back as i was getting to the house, and told me that they moved it to the 17th, 18th, and 19th. perfect! so i'm confirmed for saturday for a 12 hour day. 8am-8pm. not too shabby.

i have to say that this gig is kismet. it combines 2 of my favorite things, sewing and tv. i hope this is only the beginning of this kind of thing! Needless to say, i didn't really get any work done last night. and tonight is the dental assoc. meeting that rubs and i are working, but i hope we don't get home too late, so i can get that pouch done for mel.

I brought the pouch to work to pack it all up and mail it (and show it off of course!), and the girls at the office just loved it. Melissa even ordered one for her upcoming trip (for all of her toiletries). Hers is in a brown imitation suede with baby blue lining. it sure will be cute!

things to do this week...

so i have a new machine (pics coming later tonight). but let me tell you bout my old machine. i took it to pop on saturday. when i went over on sunday, he told me he was able to bring the needle down to catch the bobbin thread. that was great! but it wouldn't sew. the stitches weren't staying together. oh well....

well the new machine is gonna get a workout tonight. i have a little something to make for my little bro, angel, that he ordered. i will post that later this week. i also have a makeup bag to do for a girl here at the office (that's not due til friday), and a pair of jeans to hem for someone else here at the office.

then i have a maggie bag that i want to make and post tonight. and i also have a marcy, and a hayley to do... so i have my work cut out for me this week.

i figured that posting this for all to see would get my butt in gear and ready to work tonight. (and heroes is not on tonight, so i don't have that to distract me).... LOL

more toile

so after posting my green toile d pouch, i was contacted to make a custom one in blue toile. very exciting! i just love me a custom order. it should be done tonight and be shipping out tomorrow.

in sadder news, my sewing machine has decided not to work with me any longer. it went kaput on tuesday night. i have my mom's sewing machine to do my orders now, and will either have fixed my machine or gotten a new one by the time the weekend rolls around. man i hate having a machine that's not mine. please little kenmore, i hope i can fix you tonight!

toile

i have to admit, i'm a sucker for toile (pronounced "twall"). i just love the stuff, but not in it's traditional uses (though i would love to have some toile-ish decorated room in the future). traditionally, toile is off white with a pastoral scene on it in one color, usually black, blue or red. it's been used as a fabric, but the print has also been done on wallpaper in the past. it's gained a great resurgence lately and you can find toile in different colors and different themes. i even have a toile sewing basket. hmmm.... maybe i can decorate my sewing area in toile. not a bad idea, but i'm sure i'll get another idea for that area in a minute.

well i've sold a couple of toile thing:s a bag and a tote, and i have a little toile pouch with some extra green toile that i just posted today.


i really need to get aronud to making myself one of these "D" pouches, they come in so handy. i want to keep one at my desk at work with some necessities, and one in my bag for a the little stuff, and one as a mini sewing kit, and one as... well the list goes on and on.


well last night, i did rummage through my fabric and pulled a few that i can make some bags out of. i didn't even know i had some of the fabrics i stumbled across. well, since grey's anatomy is a repeat tonight, i'm sure i'll have a chance to get a little more work done, so i'm hoping to have something else to post tomorrow. til then...
