Friday faves

After that shorter than usual week, I feel like I really need my weekend back! Here are a few links to check out over the weekend, and maybe even get inspired to make a few things.

picture from A Beautiful Mess
These Mojito Jello Shots from the ladies over at A Beautiful Mess are the best idea. It is something I will totally have to make for my friend Damaris's birthday, she just loves mojitos.

picture from Run Eat Repeat
I love Run Eat Repeat is one of my favorite blogs, and now that I'm running I love the running tips even more. Check out Monica's favorite summer running gear. I need to get me some of those shorts.

picture from RollingStone.com
I'm a total Dixie Chicks fan, and love to see what the girls are up to now. Check out this new article in Rolling Stone about Natalie Maines and her new album.

picture from Fatgirl Hedonist
Finding local Miami blogs is a new obsession of mine, and I was lucky enough to stumble upon Fatgirl Hedonist a few months back. She is hilarious and tells it like it is about the food scene here in Miami. FGH is turning two and having an awesome giveaway that includes goodies like Cafe Bustelo and a few other Miami-themed goodies.

This tutorial for vintage-style flap pockets is a great idea to jazz up a plain skirt.

I need to order this tote.

I hope everyone has an awesome weekend. Any fun plans for the weekend?

Memorial Day weekend

It was great to have that long weekend, I really needed it. Seems like I was out and about a lot this weekend, it was great though.

I enjoyed some Denny's with Mom and Grandma on Saturday morning. Then that afternoon, it was mani time. I love the color combo my nail tech suggested. She always has the best ideas.

Sunday was pool day (even though that pool is still too cold for me!) and some of my cousins came over to splash around. Then Mom made BBQ ribs for dinner and my brother, his girlfriend and the kids came over to eat too. My brother's girlfriend made an amazing strawberry trifle that I must steal the recipe for.

I was able to get in some retail therapy on Monday, and then finally went to see The Great Gatsby. And I just loved it, but then I love anything Baz Luhrman does. I think he should direct the movie of my life, so there can be big colorful song and dance numbers throughout.

I wish every weekend in the summer was a three day weekend! I can't wait for the next one (which will be for my birthday!)

Did you catch any new movies this weekend?

A big thanks to all of our service men and women who have served and are currently serving our country!

Friday faves

I took a few weeks off (and I'm a day late on these), but now my Friday faves are back. Check out the stuff I found this week:

Check out this recipe for making your own homemade maraschino cherries. So much better than those freaky red ones from the store.

picture from Sometimes Sweet
Danielle's posts about their trip to Disneyland is making me itchy to go to Disney World soon to go ride and have a blast.

picture from Iowa Girl Eats
I love strawberries and I love strawberry shortcake tons. These strawberry angel food cake jars look like the perfect twist on strawberry shortcake.

picture from How Joyful
Joy's newly revamped shipping station is so bright an pretty. It's giving me some great ideas for my craft room re-do.

picture from Silly Grrl
Sarah's post about stopping the "I'm sorries" and "I can'ts" hit the nail on the head.

picture from Gym Doll
How kick-ass would it be to go run or workout in this tank?

picture from Amy Butler
And, I have decided that my next big project for myself will be the elusive Amy Butler weekender bag.

Hope everyone has a great long weekend!

Beach yoga

On Saturday, my friends Damaris, Yoanna and I decided to go try out a beach yoga class that we had heard about. We had been wanting to try yoga and found out that this class was being held every day on South Beach.

We planned to take the 7am class, which meant getting up entirely too early for the weekend. But, we packed up our beach towels (which are recommended instead of yoga mats for this class) and drove out to South Beach. These classes are held for free, they just ask you bring a donation for your teacher. And lucky for us parking on the beach is free until 9am, so we scored free parking too (if you know South Beach, you know this is a feat in and of itself).

When we first got to the beach, the sun was still rising. We felt the ocean breeze and the quiet of the beach before people began arriving. We found the lifeguard stand where the classes were being held and a group slowly started assembling. We joined right in for our yoga class, the first ever for me.

The teacher, Meredith, was great. She explained the poses and even helped us get into some of them. After all the running I've been doing lately, my muscles really needed that stretch. I can't wait to head to another class in a few weeks to see if I can do even more.

The class was great and the beach was such a relaxing place to do yoga. It was such a great way to start off the weekend. I thought getting up in the dark was crazy to drive across town for a yoga class, but I have to say that it was well worth it. I hope to be out there again soon.

If you are interested in taking these yoga classes right on South Beach, check out 3rd Street Beach Yoga. There are 2 classes every day all year long at 7am and 6pm (unless it's under 55 degrees, they'll be there!). The teachers are doing these classes for free, so please bring a donation to show your teacher how much you loved the class, and so the beach yoga can continue.

Currently...

Reading: The Great Gatsby. I'm trying to re-read it before going to see the movie. The last time I read it was in high school, which means I don't really remember the details, and there's a good chance I didn't really read the whole thing. I'm so looking forward to the movie. I just love Baz Luhrmann.

Obsessed with: The new A Beautiful Mess app! I just started playing with it today, but I can't wait to customized even more pics with their adorable borders and phrases.

Eating: Navel oranges. They are so sweet and juicy. They make the perfect snack or even a little something sweet after dinner. And they are so refreshing straight out of the fridge.

Watching: Season finales. It's a love-hate thing with season finales. I love the season finales, cause they are so good, but then I have to wait all summer for my shows to come back. Tonight I have a triple whammy, The Office's series finale, and the season finales of Grey's Anatomy and Scandal. So much good TV all at the same time!

Working on: The blog and my shop. I'm in the process of a mini facelift and more content and items for both. I can't wait to show you what I've been working on.

Loving: My amazing friends (who continue to kick ass and take names), positivity, becoming stronger every day, tiffi (even when she's being a diva), writing, dreaming

Girls' night out

Nothing better to dust off the cobwebs than a girls night out. A couple of weeks ago, the girls and I headed out for dinner and then some drinks and dancing.

Kristina was even in town, so she got to get in on all of the fun. And we totally took advantage and had manis, lunch and shopping earlier in the day too.

I just love the wacky pics you discover later on the camera. Too funny!

I'm so grateful to have all these wonderful ladies in my life. It was so great for them all to be able to to meet too. We have to get the whole gang together again soon.

Everything is so much more fun with these girls. It seems no matter what we do, we always have a blast. You just gotta love having friends like these!
