WIP Wednesday

I actually started and completed a project this week. This is something I've had on the back burner forever, so I'm glad I finally got around to it.

I bought some cherry grocery bag fabric at JoAnn's when they started carrying it (I wanna say it was a year ago). This fabric is the stuff they make the re-useable grocery bags out of and is some weird non-woven material. I wanted to make my own shopping bag, so I used the Charlie Reusable Grocery Bag pattern from Burda Style.

The bag was pretty easy to make and since I was using this fabric, I really didn't have to finish the edges, but you know how I am. So, I zig-zagged the edges in a contrasting color to give the bag some interest. I have to say that the trickiest part of making the bag was creating the folds on the bottom. But I adjusted them, to give it a gusseted feel.

The one thing about this bag though, is that it's HUGE. Like super duper big. It has a pouch sewn on the inside that you can stuff the bag into, so you can keep it in your purse, but I had to do some major origami to get it to fit.

But I'm loving my new shopping bag. And since it's in my purse already, I have no more excuses of leaving my shopping bags at home.

WIP Wednesday

I actually got my sewing machine out this week and got something done. Thanks to the My Girl Thursday crafternoon on Sunday, I made a cute bike bag. I know I showed it off with my rainy Sunday post, but here's a better look.

Here's the front. I'm so happy that my thread color blended in so well when I attached the velcro to the front flap. I thought it would look too obvious, but I think it hides it pretty well.

And here's the back of the bag. I think this is the cutest part of the bag. It has straps that are velcro adjustable to fit on a variety of bikes in a variety of ways. I can't wait to strap it onto my bike.

Making this bike bag has inspired me to start working on another bike bag. I had posted this one on my Friday faves a few weeks back. I thought there was a pattern to it, but looks like this tutorial just tells you the sizes of the pieces you need. So I started sorting through my fabric stash, but still haven't decided which one to use... oh this is what happens with too many options. I hope I can finish and have it on my bike this weekend.

Are any of you working on any new projects this week?

WIP Wednesday

I have to admit since coming back from vacation I haven't been much in the mood to do any projects. But I plan on starting a few, including a new skirt soon.

But here's something that Mom's been working on. She's taking the 2nd cake decorating class, gum paste and fondant. Tonight was her final class and she came over to show off her final cake.

Here are the pansies she was working on this weekend. They came out pretty good I think!
Check out her basket-weave on the side of the cake. This side looks so great and came out super good for her first try.

One work in progress that I did work on was my Paris trip. I had my tour booked, but now I've booked my plane tickets. I'm so excited I'm finally going. It's all official now with the tickets.

This weekend I'm gonna work on some stuff from my pinterest "crafty tutorials I will complete one day" board.

WIP Wednesday

Most of my work in progress this week is laundry and my half packed suitcase. But I did finish up my last week's WIP.

Here's my dress! I didn't have time to make my own pattern with grandma (she had a lot of work come in), so I scoured my pattern boxes to find a pattern that would work. I used New Look 6557. I had this pattern forever and it wasn't even cut out. It had the same straps as the Sundress of My Life, and after really looking at the fabric, I thought the buttons would be overkill. So I went with View E and made the skirt way shorter.

Grandma did help me with a few alterations the dress needed. She helped me put in some bust darts, cause the top was just too gaping without them. She also helped me adjust the "talle" in the back (I have no idea what this is called in English, but it's the length of the back). After those few adjustments, it fit like a glove.

The dress was pretty easy to make, and I'm probably gonna make one of the other views too. It really does have a vintage vibe with the fabric and the silhouette. I can't wait to wear it and show it off.

WIP Wednesday

I got so much done for Odd Duck last week that I'm a little burnt out. Since she helped me whip up my awesome outfit last Friday, Sewphia, my trusty sewing machine has been taking a rest. She did lots of work last week and she and I are both a little burnt out. (Which is what usually happens after a show.) But she will get back to work soon. I have lots of things to make.

I did go to JoAnn's this weekend to pick up some fabric. I have personally put myself on a fabric shopping hiatus for aprons and things for the store, but this fabric was for clothes for me. I picked up this cute cotton print to make myself some clothes for my Vegas trip next week. I'm not sure exactly what I'm making quite yet, but I'm leaning towards a sundress. I love the vintage look of the print. I'm gonna have grandma show me how to make the pattern, so wish me luck.

I hope to be showing you the progress of my sundress and another dress that Abuela is making for me too. Looks like I'm finally getting to some of that clothes I've been dying to make.

(and btw, I just got Instagram last night, so I had to use it to take my pics this week!)

WIP Wednesday

It's the last push before Odd Duck on Saturday and the work hasn't stopped much in the sweat shop.

Here's a new item I'm working on. I hope to get a few done for the show.

I also had to get my cake done for my last cake decorating class tomorrow.

And I have a lot more done than WIP. Check out my pile of done stuff!

I have a few more things to whip up and then I'm off to Odd Duck on Saturday. I hope I can finish a few more things.

WIP Wednesday

This week has been all work for Odd Duck, so I have aprons, aprons and maybe a little something new I'll have at the show. (We'll see how much time I actually have to get it all done.)

I did manage to finish up most of the stuff from the WIP drawer. I was totally on a roll sewing it all up, that is until I ran out of bias binding. There's nothing worse than running out of binding in the middle of a seam.

Now I have a huge pile of fabric ready to be cut, so I can sew it up this weekend. Wish me luck, because I hate cutting. It has to be my least favorite part of the process.

Is there one thing you really hare doing when you're crafting? I know I can't be the only one.

WIP Wednesday

I actually looked at my stock this weekend and realized, I really have to get to work for Odd Duck! I only have a couple of weeks left to work before the show. My thread rack will sure be getting a workout.

I decided to tackle as much as I could from my WIP drawer first. I pulled out these kids aprons. They were all cut out and only needed straps cut and to be all sewn up. I barely have any kids aprons left, so these will definitely help.

I also had to get ready for my second cake class, so last night I baked the cake I need to bring with me on Thursday night. Tonight I'll have to frost it. Wish me luck.

And finally here are some items from my WIP drawer that finally got finished. These three half aprons have been half done for months. But thankfully, they are all done now.

It looks like I'll be spending a lot of time in the sweatshop this weekend. I hope I can make enough for the show. Though, you can never have enough stock for a show...

WIP Wednesday

This WIP Wednesday I just wish I had more time to finish all the work I have. With Odd Duck coming up in a few weeks I have tons of stuff to finish in a few shorts weeks. Thankfully I have a lot of store stuff already cut out, so all I have to do is sew it up.

Exhibit A: Tons of black bias binding. (I'm guessing at least 10 yards.) I make all of my own bias binding, so this batch still needs to be ironed in half. Then I can use it to make my aprons.

Exhibit B: My ready to finish drawer. I have tons of aprons, wallets, pouches and everything else in there. It's all cut out and just has to be assembled. I hope to tackle most of it this weekend.

Tomorrow I have my first Wilton cake decorating class, so I hope to have some pics to show you what I learn. I can't wait to see what stuff we'll learn.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Happy Leap Day! Here goes with this week's work in progress. I have to say that knowing I have to post something on Wednesday has kind of forced me to make things. But that's an awesome thing. I also completed one of my work in progresses from last week. Go me! The other half done, but better than nothing.

First, my new project this week. I'm making a yoga mat bag. I'm taking a new circuit training class and I have to bring a mat with me. So I figured, why not make a cute bag to go with my new mat. I'm using the cute green and white "frames" print that I've had forever for the body of the bag. There's also a few exterior pockets, and I just can't decide on the plaid or the solid. Opninions anyone?

Here is last week's Alice in Wonderland dress, all done! I love the eyelet at the bottom of the dress. I can't wait to see Alice wear it.

And here's my dressform pincushion. I'm a little disappointed at the bust of the dressform, but I think the general idea is there. Now I have to mount it on a candlestick, but I want to paint the candlestick I have first, so that will have to wait til I can steal paint from Pop this weekend.

I had grand ideas to start another project this week too, but I think one at a time will work best. Plus I have the Odd Duck Bazaar coming up at the end of March, so I'll have to make some stuff for that too. Looks like the sewing machine will be getting a workout this month!

Work In Progress Wednesday

Since I always seem to have at least 2 or 3 works in progress going on, I figured I'd share some of my WIPs on Wednesdays with you. (Plus I figure it'll get my butt in gear to actually finish some of them.) This week I have 2 WIPs.

I've been trying to tackle some of the projects in my Pinterest "crafty tutorials I will complete one day" board. One of the pins I've had on there forever is this dressform pincushion from the DIY Dish. I fianlly decided on the fabric I was gonna use (from my plentiful stash). I cut out all the pattern pieces and everything is ready for assembly. I hope I can at least sew it together tonight. I want to take this mini-dressform to my office to decorate my cubicle (especially since I'm moving into a new cubicle today).

Project #2 this week is a costume for a soon to be one-year-old. Her name is Alice and she'll be celebrating her 1st birthday with an Alice in One-derland theme. I won't be able to make it to her party, so as her gift I'm making her this Alice costume she can wear at the party. The dress was an adapted pattern, which came together pretty quick, but the apron was pretty much from scratch. I'm not used to making such a small apron, so it's taking some trial and error.

That's all the stuff that's half done in my studio this week.Do you have any projects that are works in progress?
