about a month ago, we presented the invitations, and boy were they shocked. they all immediately asked, girls this looks expensive, do you need help? what can we do? all we wanted them to do was show up and enjoy.

we made so much stuff and so much detail... here is the room once it was all set up. mom made the table runners to give the table a bit of color. i bought the tissue boxes (cause we knew there would be tears). gisela made the chocolates, yoly did the programs. we also had little tea lights, and our place cards/favors were little cuban coffee cups with a burlap sack with coffee beans in them. we then attached a little tag that said "las selvas de matias" (my great-grandfather's plantation) and the name. we used everyone's madien name for this. we also did our own flower arrangements with flowers donated by another cousin. the decor looked beautiful! We even set up a chair in honor of Mamá. It had an apron, some chicks, a coffee cup and a portrait of her.

we had the books (these are the books of the biopgraphies of all the Leyendas) all wrapped up, the brooches, and scrolls with the poem. Then another cousin, alina, had rosary bracelets for the jovenes, and earrings for las jovencitas. We also had a coladero, which is what Papá used to make coffee in.

Then Gisela introduced the Leyendas and we ate breakfast.

The breakfast was delicious: scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, fruit, danish, muffins, bagels, coffee, orange juice and cranberry juice.
After breakfast the Leyendas biographies were read by their daughters. Yolanda read Mamá’s. it was very emotional for everyone.

After the readings some of the aunts got up to thank us for everything. Tía Elba got up and thanked us all.

It was a beautiful day and we had a great time together. When we were arranging the flowers on Friday night, we talked about actually planning events for real. And our little business already got some business. The waitress at the country club was so touched by what we did, she wants us to make some little favors for her. And I’ve been spreading the word like crazy. So here’s to event planning, which I’d totally love to do for a living.
