Rainy Sunday

The last couple of days here have been rainy and gross. Sunday it barely stopped raining. It rained so much my pool is pretty much full.

Since I was all couped up on account of the rain, I decided to get some stuff done. So I made some homemade peanut butter. I used the recipe from A Beautiful Mess. (I had to make sure it wasn't poison, so I made my self some peanut butter toast after for a taste test.)

After making my batch of peanut butter, I joined Chantilly (of My Girl Thursday) and Elycia (of Love Elycia) for their online Crafternoon. We made this cute bike bag. It was so fun sewing along with these ladies, and everyone else that was online, it made my rainy day a little brighter. Plus, I have a cute new bag to show off.

After all the crafty-ness the rain finally let up a bit, so I was able to take my doggie outside. She wasn't too happy with the wet grass though. This morning was equally as gross and rainy, but I'm stuck inside the office, so no crafting for me today.

So how do you spend your rainy days?

My best friend stumbled upon this girl's vlogs on youtube and showed them to me. I went to her blog and just fell in love. Marlena is currently in Paris and shares tons of tips about traveling to Europe and Paris. I'm glued to see all the fun she's having over in Paris!

I will totally be joining Chantilly and Elycia in their Sunday Crafternoon. We'll be making this cute bike bag. I can't wait to craft along.

I love Alison's post about why she doesn't own expensive shoes. Numbers 5-7 are totally me.

This guidebook is currently living in my purse. I'm reading up about the city of lights for my trip (which is only 16 weeks from now!).

WIP Wednesday

I have to admit since coming back from vacation I haven't been much in the mood to do any projects. But I plan on starting a few, including a new skirt soon.

But here's something that Mom's been working on. She's taking the 2nd cake decorating class, gum paste and fondant. Tonight was her final class and she came over to show off her final cake.

Here are the pansies she was working on this weekend. They came out pretty good I think!
Check out her basket-weave on the side of the cake. This side looks so great and came out super good for her first try.

One work in progress that I did work on was my Paris trip. I had my tour booked, but now I've booked my plane tickets. I'm so excited I'm finally going. It's all official now with the tickets.

This weekend I'm gonna work on some stuff from my pinterest "crafty tutorials I will complete one day" board.

My garment rack has seen better days, but how awesome is this DIY garment rack? It doesn't look too hard to make, you just need a trip to the home depot and a car big enough to bring all the pipes home. I wonder if I can figure out how to make this portable?

picture from Amazon
I need this book. My recent dress making has made me want to make myself more clothes and this book looks like it has great ideas. It comes out on Tuesday, so you can pre-order now.

WIP Wednesday

Most of my work in progress this week is laundry and my half packed suitcase. But I did finish up my last week's WIP.

Here's my dress! I didn't have time to make my own pattern with grandma (she had a lot of work come in), so I scoured my pattern boxes to find a pattern that would work. I used New Look 6557. I had this pattern forever and it wasn't even cut out. It had the same straps as the Sundress of My Life, and after really looking at the fabric, I thought the buttons would be overkill. So I went with View E and made the skirt way shorter.

Grandma did help me with a few alterations the dress needed. She helped me put in some bust darts, cause the top was just too gaping without them. She also helped me adjust the "talle" in the back (I have no idea what this is called in English, but it's the length of the back). After those few adjustments, it fit like a glove.

The dress was pretty easy to make, and I'm probably gonna make one of the other views too. It really does have a vintage vibe with the fabric and the silhouette. I can't wait to wear it and show it off.

My weekend: ink, sewing and Easter

Here's an Instagram view of how I spent my weekend (can you tell I'm a little Instagram obsessed?

breakfast with grandma & the aunts / showing off my cute braid / my new tattoo!
retail therapy, colored jeans / working on my new dress / Mom's Easter cake (featuring some flowers from her new cake class
Tiffi chilling after Easter dinner / my dress almost done / our Easter flowers

The weekend was great, I just wish there was more of it. I have so many things to do before I leave on Saturday, I could have used another day off to get more done.

I hope everyone had a great weekend and a Happy Easter and Passover!

Friday faves 8

Craziness at work this week made the weekend seem like it would never come, but it's finally here and I'm so ready for it. I have breakfast with the aunts tomorrow morning, then my tattoo. Here's some stuff to check out before the weekend festivities begin.

picture from Hostess with the Mostess
With Easter on Sunday, I just couldn't resist this Easter Bunny party. Plus anything that includes Peeps (which are my absolute favorite Easter candy is always awesome.

picture from Make It and Love It
This is such an awesome idea for turning any bag to a camera bag. I saw this and immediately thought of Kerry, I think you may need one of these!

While idea browsing for my sundress this week, I of course hit up Mod Cloth. I fell in love with this dress which is aptly named, Sundress of My Life. I'm thinking the top of my dress will be like this top, buttons and all, but I'm gonna change up the skirt.

picture from Small Good Things
How quirky and adorable is this animal pin cushion? It totally reminds me of my friend, Julie. This is so her!

picture from I Waste So Much Time
I love Coca-Cola. I have to say it's my beverage of choice. This pic looking back at all of their bottles over the years is so cool.

picture from Cotton & Curls
While we were all dressed up for Odd Duck this weekend, Mom mentioned to me that she saw some thicker headbands with knots in the front. I think these DIY turbans were what she was talking about. I may have to wear one soon.

picture from A Beautiful Mess
I love me some polka dots. This DIY polka dot rug is so my style. It'd be great to have in my craft room.

picture from My Baking Addiction
I also love Cadbury Creme Eggs around Easter time. And these Cadbury Creme Cupcakes look too yummy for words.

This song has been stuck in my head since last week, when my friend Damaris introduced me to it. It's from Brazilian singer, Michel Telo. The song has become a mega hit around the world and even Pitbull has done a version. So here it is, before it hits big in the US.

And finally, this is where I'm headed next weekend! This post has me even more excited to go.

Currently...

grey & rainy morning in paradise today
Obsessing over: Instagram! I'm one of the Android folks that finally got instagram this week and I'm loving it. The pic above was taken with Instagram this morning.

Working on: My fitness. I found an awesome trainer, through Couptessa, and I really love going to her circuit training classes. Plus, the classes are only 30 minutes, so it's done before you know it. I feel myself slowly getting stronger, and hope to be able to see some of the results on my body soon.
Thinking about: The tattoo I'm getting this weekend. I finally made my appointment and will have some new ink to show off soon. It's something small, but cute. I'm super excited, but a little scared too. I got my first and only tattoo 6 years ago, but I know this one will be great too.
Anticipating: My Vegas trip next weekend! I so need to get away. I'll be meeting up some awesome girls, a couple of my good friends from high school and some awesome new girls that I'll be meeting for the first time. If all of our emails are any indication, it's gonna be a blast!
Listening to: Pandora, the "Broadway Showtunes" station. Yes, I'm that kind of geek.
Eating: My lunch, a yummy chicken and rice bowl. It's from a new local place, Grill It. It's right around the corner from my office, so we go there a lot. But not only is it close, but the food is delicious and the staff is awesome. They are so nice and helpful there. I think it's the people that keep us coming back.
Wishing: I was at home working on my new sundress. I think I finally have the design of the dress that I want nailed down, now it's just a matter of making it. I can't wait to get started on it.
*thanks to Danielle from Sometimes Sweet for the post inspiration!

WIP Wednesday

I got so much done for Odd Duck last week that I'm a little burnt out. Since she helped me whip up my awesome outfit last Friday, Sewphia, my trusty sewing machine has been taking a rest. She did lots of work last week and she and I are both a little burnt out. (Which is what usually happens after a show.) But she will get back to work soon. I have lots of things to make.

I did go to JoAnn's this weekend to pick up some fabric. I have personally put myself on a fabric shopping hiatus for aprons and things for the store, but this fabric was for clothes for me. I picked up this cute cotton print to make myself some clothes for my Vegas trip next week. I'm not sure exactly what I'm making quite yet, but I'm leaning towards a sundress. I love the vintage look of the print. I'm gonna have grandma show me how to make the pattern, so wish me luck.

I hope to be showing you the progress of my sundress and another dress that Abuela is making for me too. Looks like I'm finally getting to some of that clothes I've been dying to make.

(and btw, I just got Instagram last night, so I had to use it to take my pics this week!)
